Junior Research Fellowships 2025

Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible for a Junior Research Fellowship you must pass all four of the following eligibility requirements:

  1. You have completed an undergraduate degree at a University, or equivalent institution. Undergraduate degrees include, but are not limited to: First Degrees, Bachelor Degrees and some lower Master's Degrees. Most such degrees will involve full-time residential study and be of at least 3 years duration.

    OR

    You have completed, or are currently in the process of completing, a postgraduate degree at a University, or equivalent institution. Postgraduate degrees include, but are not limited to: some higher Master's Degrees, PhD Degrees.

  2. You are currently a postgraduate student, probably in the latter stages of your research leading to a PhD Degree.

    OR

    You are a postdoctoral researcher, who has completed their PhD Degree after 1st January 2024.

  3. You do not hold or have held a stipendiary research fellowship at another Oxford or Cambridge college.

  4. You must have started full-time research and are early in your career.
  5. If an unusual amount of time has passed since beginning your research, you are unlikely to be considered unless there are strong mitigating circumstances, such as:
    • some of the research was done part-time
    • a severe illness
    • a tragedy in the family
    • a gap due to full-time volunteer work
    • taking family friendly leave, for example, maternity leave, adoption leave and shared parental leave
